NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Senator Kelly Hancock today announced his intention to run for re-election in Texas Senate District 9 (SD 9) and pledged to represent the citizens of Tarrant and Dallas counties with common-sense conservative leadership on the economic, social and public safety issues important to North Texans.

“I ran for the Texas Senate promising to be conservative with Texas’s finances, to guard against burdensome government regulations that strangle job-creators, and to help protect the health and safety of our communities by supporting law enforcement, border security and better road and water infrastructure. I carried those conservative principles onto the floor of the Texas Senate, and championed limited and effective state government, without raising taxes on employers and families.

“I now ask my friends and neighbors in Senate District 9 to allow me to continue that conservative leadership in the Texas Capitol as our state addresses job and population growth and manages demands on our budget, infrastructure, schools and communities with a balanced budget and limited resources.”

Senator Hancock is recognized in 2013 by the Texas Conservative Coalition as a “Courageous Conservative,” and by the Texas Conservative Roundtable as a “Lone Star Conservative Leader.” He was in the top four most fiscally conservative Senators on the Texans for Fiscal Responsibility 2013 Senate Fiscal Responsibility Index.

Governor Rick Perry said, “Kelly Hancock is one of the most effective conservatives in Texas, working to encourage job creation, protect Texas values and limit the size and cost of government. He is an asset to our state, our party and to the cause of freedom in the Lone Star State.”

In recent years, Hancock has been named “Legislator of the Year” by the Texas Fire Chiefs Association, and received the “Katie Sherrod Advocacy Award” for advocating for victims of domestic violence. He was named “Champion for Free Enterprise” by the Texas Association of Business and a “Taxpayer Hero” by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility.
