Voters will go to the polls Tuesday to elect a new Texas District 4 Senator.
Candidates Brandon Creighton, an attorney from Conroe, and Steve Toth, a business owner from The Woodlands, are both Republicans vying for the Senate Seat in a special election.
The winner of the runoff election will fill the position left vacant when former Texas Senator Tommy Williams resigned from his Senate seat in October 2013 after more than a decade of representing District 4. Williams subsequently took a government relations job at Texas A&M University.
Creighton, 43, currently serves as Texas House Majority Leader while Toth, 53, is also a serving as a state representative.
Jefferson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Everette “Bo” Alfred on Monday urged voters to go to the polls for what he described as a “very critical” election.
Though both candidates are Republicans, Alfred said party affiliation does not matter when people from Jefferson County take their issues to Austin.
“We do need people to get out and vote. We need good representation for District 4,” Alfred said.
Voters should remember to bring an approved photo ID with them to the polls.
A photo ID is required both during early voting on Election Day.
The following is an approved form of photo ID:
• Texas Drivers License — issued by the Department of Public Safety
• Texas Personal Identification Card — issued by DPS
• Texas Concealed Handgun License — issued by DPS
• United States Military Identification card containing the person’s photograph
• United States Military Identification card containing the person’s photograph
• United States Passport — issued by the U.S. government
• Election Identification Certificate
Senate District 4, which has nearly 816,000 residents, includes all of Chambers and Jefferson counties and parts of Galveston, Harris, and Montgomery Counties.
