Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Jason Pulliam of San Antonio as justice of the 4th Court of Appeals for a term to expire at the 2016 general election. Pulliam will be the first African American justice to serve on the court.

Pulliam is judge of Bexar County Court at Law No. 5. He is a past associate attorney for Ball and Weed and Ford and Massey in San Antonio and the Carlson Law Firm in Killeen, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a judge advocate. He is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, and a past member of the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association and the Defense Counsel of San Antonio.

Pulliam received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in political science from Brooklyn College and a law degree from the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
