DuPont Says Texas Law Bars Chemical Leak Death Suits

Law360, Houston (January 13, 2015, 7:11 PM ET) — DuPont Co. on Tuesday hit back at negligence claims brought by the families of two DuPont workers who died after a chemical release at the company’s La Porte, Texas, plant in November, saying the claims are barred by Texas’ workers’ compensation law.

In the complaints filed Dec. 17 in Harris County, the families allege that DuPont was negligent or grossly negligent in maintaining the plant in which four workers died after an alleged faulty valve released chemicals that, when mixed with oxygen, create a toxic gas….
