Support HB 1692 by Sheets (SB 1942 by Huffman) – forum non conveniens.  Address SCOT decision in In Re Ford Motor Company, holding that wrongful-death beneficiaries are distinct plaintiffs that can invoke the Texas-resident exception to the forum non conveniens rule (71.051(3), CPRC).  This bill is a major component of the League’s 2015 Legislative Program, and will be heard Tuesday morning.

HB 1492 by Miller, D (SB 491 by Schwertner) – Asbestos Bankruptcy.  Texas should address manipulation of the bankruptcy trust system of compensating claimants for asbestos-related diseases.  Require that plaintiff lawyers file claims with bankruptcy trusts in advance of trial against defendants in litigation to assure honesty and transparency in litigation.

Support HB 1668 by Workman/Oliviera/Simmons (SB 666 by Eltife) – OCIP Clarification.  Make a non-substantive clarification of Sections 406.122 and 406.123, Labor Code, to address an erroneous 13th Court of Appeals opinion citing a conflict between the two sections.
