On August 14, CenterPoint Energy filed a motion with the Multi-District Litigation Panel to transfer four lawsuits related to Hurricane Beryl to an MDL pretrial court. Each case seeks damages arising from the loss of power and alleged deficiencies in the transmission and distribution systems. Three of the cases are styled as class actions, while the fourth is a personal injury lawsuit. As it is likely that numerous additional cases will be filed, all with substantially similar claims, we believe that the MDL process, as it was for Winter Storm Uri, is perfectly suited to managing this litigation.
