Sylvia Borunda Firth

Members of the State Bar of Texas have elected El Paso lawyer Sylvia Borunda Firth as their next President-elect. Firth will be sworn in as President-elect later this month and will serve as President from June 2021 to June 2022. The current President-elect, Richmond criminal defense lawyer Robert P. McDougal, will serve as President for the remainder of this year and during the legislative session.

Firth is a familiar figure around the Capitol as a consequence of her nearly two-decade career with the City of El Paso. A graduate of St. Mary’s University and the University of Texas School of Law, she served as El Paso City Attorney, Chief of Staff to the Mayor of El Paso, and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for the city. Prior to her public service, she was general counsel of American Garment Finishers, Inc. in El Paso and as an associate with Grambling & Mounce. Currently, she practices real estate law in her own firm.
