Jared Woodfill

Former Harris County Chair Jared Woodfill is the named attorney on an emergency petition filed with the Texas Supreme Court last Friday seeking to invalidate Governor Abbott’s emergency orders relating to the coronavirus pandemic. The petition alleges that the orders contravene various provisions of the Texas Bill of Rights, as well as constitutional provisions governing separation of powers, due process, and equal protection. The plaintiffs include Dr. Steve Hotze, Rep.Bill Zedler (R-Arlington), Houston restauranteur Ed Hendee, and an assortment of other business people and three Houston area pastors. Amicus briefs in support have also been filed by Washington, D.C.-based Americans United for Separation of Church and State and others.
