HB 1325 by Rep. Doug Miller (R-New Braunfels) unanimously passed the House this afternoon and is on its way to the Senate. TCJL is grateful for the time and effort put into this important legislation by Rep. Miller, Chairman Tryon Lewis, and the members of the House Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee. We also thank our colleagues from Texans for Lawsuit Reform, especially Lee Parsley and Alan Waldrop for their hard work and drafting expertise; the fine team of defense trial attorneys who helped negotiate a consensus bill, including Kay Andrews, John LaBoon, Nathan Horne, and many others; and Cary Roberts and the U.S Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Legal Reform. Finally, a very big thanks to Melissa Brown of Georgia-Pacific, whose leadership of TCJL’s asbestos/silica working group has kept this issue on the front policy burner for the past several years.
