A Texas federal judge on Wednesday allowed the Iraqi government to sue the Kurdistan Regional Government in a dispute over more than one million barrels of crude oil stranded aboard a tanker off the coast of Galveston for almost six months.
In its motion to dismiss the suit, Kurdistan argued that it was immune from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil’s suit under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, which grants foreign states immunity from U.S. courts.
