I hope you are staying healthy and safe as we adjust to a new normal. I continue to be inspired by the acts of kindness and generosity exhibited by so many, and I am proud of the way our judges and lawyers have stepped up to meet this crisis.
One critical challenge in this time is ensuring access to justice for all Texans. Texas lawyers and legal aid organizations have partnered with the State Bar of Texas to provide a legal services hotline at (800)504-7030. This hotline connects those in need of legal aid with attorneys who can advise them on issues raised by the pandemic, such as foreclosures, unemployment appeals, and debt collection.
Texans from all walks of life can support these efforts by visiting the Texas Access to Justice Commission and Houston Volunteer Lawyers. These outstanding organizations also provide helpful resources should you know anyone who cannot afford legal assistance.
Together we can overcome these challenges and help those most in need.
