On August 17, a general-purpose PAC named the “Judicial Fairness Fund” filed with the Texas Ethics Commission a declaration of intent to make political expenditures exceeding $5,000 in opposition to incumbent Justices David Puryear, Bob Pemberton and Jeff Rose, as well as Scott Field, who is challenging incumbent Justice Diane Henson. As required by statute, consequently, Ethics Commission Executive Director David Reisman has suspended the limits on contributions, expenditures, and reimbursement of personal funds that ordinarily apply to judicial races under the Judicial Campaign Fairness Act. The person or persons who have created this PAC are not yet known.
