Chairman Tryon Lewis

AUSTIN, TEXAS-Today, Representative Tryon Lewis (R-Odessa) announced he would not seek re-election to the Texas House of Representatives and will retire at the end of his current term. In a statement released today, Representative Lewis said, “When I first ran to serve our district as State Representative, I committed to myself that I would serve three terms, with approval of the voters. Having served those three terms, I am announcing that I will not be a candidate for a fourth term. I will continue to serve out the remainder of my present term.”

Representative Lewis has proudly served House District 81 since 2008 and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence and a member of the House Committee on Environmental Regulation. Prior to his service in the legislature, Representative Lewis served as a State District Judge for 21 years. He also currently serves as a member on the board of directors for the Texas Conservative Coalition, a member of the steering committee for the House Research Organization, an appointee to the Nuclear Legislative Workgroup for the National Conference of State Legislators, a member of the Texas Judicial Council, a member of the Texas House Energy Caucus, and has been honored as the “Legislator of the Year” by the Family Law Section of the Texas Bar and Family Law Foundation, as well as the Legislative Leader award by the Texas Association of Broadcasters.
In his statement he also expressed his gratitude to the community, sharing that “It has been a great honor to represent the wonderful people of Andrews, Ector, Ward and Winkler Counties as we worked together on matters of importance to our communities, to West Texas, and to the entire state. It has been a privilege to serve in the legislature with legislators whom I have found to be uniformly hard-working, patriotic and dedicated. I wish to express my appreciation for the many people who have worked with me on the passage of important legislation for our area and for those who have taken the time and trouble to travel to the Capitol during legislative sessions to make the voice of West Texas heard. I also wish to give special thanks to the excellent members of my legislative staff who have served me and the people of District 81 so very well.”
