Sen. Sarah Eckhardt

Former Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt has emerged from a six-candidate special election to win the Senate District 14 seat, vacated this spring by longtime Sen. Kirk Watson (D-Austin). Eckhardt resigned from her position as County Judge earlier this summer to make the race. Her strongest opponent, eight-term State Representative Eddie Rodriguez (D-Austin), conceded the race after polling 34% to Eckhardt’s 49.7% on July 14. Eckhardt won election as Travis County Judge in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018. She will serve out Sen. Watson’s unexpired term and will next be on the ballot in 2022.
