Larry McDougal

The board of directors of the State Bar of Texas (SBOT) will meet on July 27 in a special meeting convened to discuss the controversial comments by its newly inaugurated president, Larry McDougal. McDougal, a criminal defense lawyer with a practice in Richmond, has come under fire comments made about the Black Lives Matter movement, one in 2015 and another earlier this month. According to an email sent to SBOT members this morning, the board “will accept comments, discuss, and consider possible action regarding online commentary made by State Bar of Texas President Larry McDougal and other officers and directors. The board also will discuss the creation of a State Bar of Texas Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.” A link to the American Bar Association Journal’s reporting on the controversy is given below.
