AUSTIN — The Texas Civil Justice League Political Action Committee (TCJL PAC) today endorsed Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst for re-election in 2014.”Since his election as Lieutenant Governor in 2002, Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst has been steadfast in his support for civil justice reform,” said Red McCombs, San Antonio businessman and TCJL PAC Chairman. “His experience and background as a business owner and rancher uniquely qualifies him for one of the most important jobs in state government. He understands the importance of maintaining a healthy business climate in Texas, and we are proud to endorse him.”
In 2003 Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst took a leading role in passing the sweeping tort law changes that helped spark the Texas economy and enhance access to health care across the state. In 2005 he took up the fight for asbestos litigation reform, ending abusive asbestos litigation in Texas courts and saving Texas manufacturing businesses and jobs. He has since 2005 worked tirelessly to assure that the reforms were maintained and strengthened.
“Lieutenant Governor Dewhurst recognizes that economic growth, job creation, and individual prosperity depend on a balanced and predictable tort system,” said Carol Sims, TCJL PAC Treasurer. “His outstanding record speaks for itself, and he deserves our enthusiastic and unqualified support for re-election as the presiding officer of the Texas Senate.”
Formed in 1986, the TCJL PAC supports statewide, legislative, and judicial candidates, regardless of party affiliation, who are committed to creating and maintaining a fair and efficient Texas civil justice system. It has more than 5,000 members in Texas.
