Secretary of State Jane Nelson
As you recall, HB 2384 directed the Texas Secretary of State to promulgate a form implementing the bill’s requirement that judicial candidates disclose certain information in their application for a place on the ballot. That information includes the candidate’s felony conviction status, any sanctions or censures by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct, any disciplinary actions, a statement of the candidate’s legal and courtroom experience for the past five years (including legal specialization), and misdemeanor convictions. Candidates must state that they have no professional courtroom or appellate experience, if that is the case. The new requirements are effective for the March 2024 primary elections. Filing commences on November 11 and closes on December 11.
